Rapala X-Rap Otus 17cm Hybrid Lure

Half hard bait, half soft bait. The X-Rap body rolls side to side on the retrieve while the big curl tail wafts behind it. Stop winding and the tail opens like a parachute, holding the lure level as it sinks slowly into the depths.

That controlled drop is what earns it takes in cold water, when a fast lure gets followed and refused. The tail is held on a six-point stainless plate rather than glued, and a spare tail is in the box.

Which colour?

• Blue Ghost (BGH) – blue and silver scaling over an orange belly, finished with an orange tail tip. A baitfish pattern with just enough colour to track.
• Live Rainbow Trout (RTL) – spotted olive back and a magenta flank behind a hot pink spotted tail. The one for trout waters and coloured days.
• Spawning Roach (SPWR) – silver-blue scaled flank with red fins and a pearl tail. The natural choice where roach are the main prey fish.
