Rapala X-Light Crank Shallow Runner 03 Crankbait

A 4g crankbait that still casts properly. The body is weighted so it loads a light rod and gets out to the far bank, then swims back with a tight kicking action and an internal rattle. Running depth is 0.9-1.2m, which puts it just over most gravel bars and weed beds.

It takes a straight wind, a twitched retrieve or a slow crank equally well, so it is a sensible first lure for perch, small pike and chub on ultralight tackle.

Which colour?

• Live Perch (PEL) – olive back with dark bars, yellow flank and an orange pectoral. The obvious pick where perch are the main prey fish.
• Live Roach (ROL) – silver-olive scaling with an orange lateral flash and a red eye. The natural choice in clear water.
• Firetiger (FT) – chartreuse and green with black bars over an orange belly, for colour, dusk and deeper margins.
• Gold Fluorescent Red (GFR) – fluorescent orange back over a gold body. The brightest of the four.
