Description

A 12000-size big pit reel that weighs 520g is unusual, and that is the point of the Obsidian. The frame, sideplates and rotor are C-40X carbon, the spool and handle are cut for lightness, and the main shaft is A7075 aluminium running through a hollowed pinion, so there is very little resistance to feel through the handle.

The 35mm stroke turns over slowly, which lays line in tight, even cones and is what lets a big spool cast its full range without the top layers falling in. A one-piece bail and a DLC-coated roller keep the line off any sharp transitions on the way in.

The drag is a carbon fibre stack with a fast progressive action, so it moves from locked to giving line in a small part of a turn rather than several. A rotor brake stops the bail arm swinging round on the cast, and a tangle guard keeps loose line out of the shaft.

Spools

  • Main spool – 0.33mm/680m, 0.35mm/600m, 0.38mm/500m
  • Spare spool with the 8000 reducer – 0.33mm/440m, 0.35mm/385m, 0.38mm/320m
  • Spare spool with the 1500 reducer – 0.16mm/330m, 0.18mm/260m, 0.20mm/210m

Specification

  • Model OSD12000-35A
  • Gear ratio 4.3:1, line retrieve 103cm per turn
  • Max drag 18kg, weight 520g
  • 9 HPB bearings plus 1 roller bearing
  • 35mm stroke with super slow oscillation and worm shaft transmission
  • C-40X carbon frame, sideplates and Cyclonic Flow Rotor
  • Carbon fibre fast progressive drag
  • Even Flow roller with DLC coating, one-piece bail, rotor brake

The spare spool and its two reducers mean one reel covers a big-water main line, a shorter-range set-up and a light line job without buying anything else.
