Drennan Wide Gape Specialist Micro Barbed Eyed Hooks

The Wide Gape Specialist is a short shank eyed hook in a bronze finish, and it is one of the standard choices for a hair rig. The wide gape and the curved point suit a broad spread of baits rather than one particular size of bait.

The point is the reason to pick it. Curved points hold in better and fewer fish come off, and being curved rather than straight they are less prone to blunting and damage. The wire is forged, the point is chemically etched, and it is built on a special bend.

Which size?

• Size 4 (0.90mm) – the biggest and heaviest we stock, for large baits and heavy going.
• Size 6 (0.84mm) – the workhorse size for hair-rigged boilies and pellets.
• Size 8 (0.76mm) – a step neater, and where to start if you are undecided.
• Size 10 (0.71mm) – for smaller baits, without dropping much wire strength.
• Size 12 (0.64mm) – the finest of the five, for small hookbaits and clear water.
