Rapala Original Floater F07 7cm Floating Lure

The Original Floater was the first Rapala, and the loose wounded-minnow roll it swims with is still why it catches. At 7cm it is the right size for perch, chub and jack pike on a light spinning rod.

Because the balsa body floats at rest, one lure covers several jobs. Twitch it on the top as a surface bait, wind it steadily and it runs 0.9-1.5m down, or add a split shot to the trace to hold it deeper over a drop-off. Every one is hand tuned and tank tested, so it tracks straight out of the packet.

Which colour?

• Silver (S) – black back, silver flank, white belly. The plain baitfish finish and the one to start with in clear water.
• Gold (G) – solid gold flank under a black back, with a red throat. A warmer flash for tea-coloured or peaty water.
• Fire Tiger (FT) – chartreuse and green over an orange belly, barred in black. The high-visibility option for colour and low light.
• Rainbow Trout (RT) – spotted olive back with a pink and blue scaled flank, for waters where trout are the natural food.
