Rapala CountDown CD05 5cm Sinking Lure

The CountDown sinks at a steady, repeatable rate, so you can count it down to the depth the fish are sitting at and then start the retrieve there. That is what makes it the answer over weed tops, along a drop-off or against bottom structure, rather than only in the top layer.

The extra weight has not taken the life out of it. It is still a balsa body, and it gives the same slow-rolling Rapala action on a straight wind. At 5cm it suits perch, trout and chub on light gear.

Which colour?

• Live Char (CHL) – spotted olive and gold flank over a deep orange belly. A natural pattern for trout and char water.
• Gold Fluorescent Red (GFR) – gold body under a fluorescent orange back. The one that stays visible when the water colours up.
• Gold Juvenile Trout (GJTR) – gold base with brown parr marks and red spots, imitating a small trout.
• Muddler (MD) – olive back with dark chevrons over a silver-white belly. A subdued bullhead and sculpin look for clear water.
