Trakker Ronnie Rig

A ready-tied Ronnie, which is the spinner rig most people mean when they say they are fishing a pop-up. The hook hangs off a swivel rather than being tied straight to the hooklink, so it can rotate freely and find a hold whichever way the carp picks the bait up.

It is tied on 25lb / 11.4kg hooklink with a quick-change swivel and an anti-tangle sleeve at the hook end, and comes with a bait screw already fitted, so a pop-up goes on in seconds. The loop end clips straight onto a lead clip or a leader.

Which hook?

• Size 4 – the largest, for 15mm and 16mm pop-ups and bigger fish.
• Size 6 – the one most anglers use, and where to start if you are unsure. Balances a 12mm to 15mm pop-up nicely.
• Size 8 – the smallest, for 10mm and 12mm baits and heavily fished waters.

Micro barbed or barbless is the same rig either way. Choose barbless where the fishery insists on it; the micro barb is the choice everywhere else.
