Sticky Baits The Krill Tuff Ones

Sticky boil their baits for less time than most, which is good for the ingredients and bad for anything that has to survive a swim full of roach, crayfish or coots. Tuff Ones are the answer to that: the same Krill recipe, hardened, so your hookbait is still on the hair when the carp finally turns up.

They are made to match your freebies, so nothing about the presentation changes — and despite how tough they are, they still carry the same liquids and powdered attractants as the bottom baits.

Team angler Nick Helleur fishes them as standard rather than as a last resort, on the grounds that most venues hold enough small fish to strip a soft bait before it earns its keep.

Which size?

• 16mm – matches 16mm freebies, the usual choice.
• 20mm – a bigger mouthful that stands out over a bed of smaller bait, and harder still for nuisance fish to shift.
