Heavy 5mm tungsten beads with a small float stop set inside, so the bead grips the mainline and stays where you put it. That grip is what makes them work as stops for naked chod fishing, where there is nothing else holding the rig in place.
They have plenty of other uses on the rig, but the naked chod is where they earn their keep.
