Drennan Barbless Wide Gape Specialist Eyed Hooks

The barbless Wide Gape Specialist is built around bigger baits – bread, meat and paste – and it is extra strong in the wire, then heavily forged on top of that. On a barbless water that strength earns its keep, because the hook has to hold on shape and sharpness alone.

Wide gape patterns tend to improve hooking ratios, and the curved point holds in better so fewer fish are lost. Being curved rather than straight, it is also less prone to blunting and damage than a straight point.

Which size?

• Size 6 (0.84mm) – the biggest and heaviest we stock, for large baits and heavy going.
• Size 8 (0.76mm) – the everyday size, and the safe pick if you are only carrying one.
• Size 10 (0.71mm) – a step neater, for medium baits on the hair.
• Size 12 (0.64mm) – finer wire for smaller hookbaits.
• Size 14 (0.56mm) – the finest of the five, for small baits and clear water.
