Thinking Anglers Curve Shank Hooks - Barbed

The Curve Shank is the pattern behind most modern carp rigs. A 15 degree in-turned eye, a curved shank and a needle-sharp straight point make it turn aggressively and take hold fast, which is what a Ronnie, a 360 or a Slip-D asks of a hook. It works just as well on a plain knotless knot hair or a blowback.

Curved shanks live or die on wire quality, so these are forged and double tempered from extra-heavy gauge high carbon steel. That process is where the strength-to-gauge comes from, and it is the reason the shape holds up on big fish. The straight point is long, tapered and finished in PTFE.

Which size?

• Size 4 – The largest, for big baits and waters that ask a lot of a hook.
• Size 5 – An intermediary size, half a step down from the 4.
• Size 6 – The middle of the range, and a fair default for Ronnie work.
• Size 7 – The smallest Thinking Anglers make in this pattern. The range stops here, so there is no size 8 Curve Shank.
