Korda Wide Gape Barbed Carp Hooks

The Wide Gape is the pattern most carp anglers reach for without thinking about it. It came out of an old spade end hook from the eighties and nineties, the Maruta Kinryu, which Korda rebuilt around an eye rather than a spade.

What you get is a slightly in-turned eye, a short shank, a heavily forged bend and a very sharp beaked point. It suits pop-ups and bottom baits equally, and it is the sort of hook that tends to stay in once it has gone in.

Which size?

• Size 4 – the larger of the two we hold, for bigger baits and for fish that fight hard.
• Size 6 – the everyday size, and the safer pick if you are matching 15mm baits or unsure.
