Drennan Specialist XT Gripper Barbless Eyed Hooks

The Specialist XT Gripper has a medium short shank, a wide gape and a curved needle point – close in shape to the Wide Gape Specialist, rebuilt with new steel and a slick PTFE coating. It is an all-round pattern for the big fish angler.

The wide gape leaves plenty of room around a sizeable bait, and the curved point is made to stay sharp through a session rather than a fish or two. It is forged for extra strength, which is what you want when the hook is the only thing between you and a barbel in the current.

Which size?

• Size 6 (0.85mm) – the biggest and heaviest of the five, for large baits and hard fighting fish.
• Size 8 (0.76mm) – the everyday size in the range, and the safe pick if you are carrying one.
• Size 10 (0.72mm) – only marginally finer, and a natural match for medium baits.
• Size 12 (0.64mm) – a clear step down in wire, for neater presentations.
• Size 14 (0.57mm) – the finest we stock, for smaller hookbaits and clearer water.
